3 Habits to Break Today (If You Want to Be More Successful)

All entrepreneurs worry about the competition sometimes.

Some more than others, but I have yet to meet the first business owner that NEVER worries about her competitors in the marketplace.

Understandable: the market place is really crowded these days.

Everyone is trying to get clients, and they’re all using the same marketing methods to find them.

As a result, standing out is a must these days.

I see many entrepreneurs struggle with it. Just like I did for a long time. I didn’t know how to make myself visible (and was scared to do so). And I had no clue what made me unique – I just couldn’t see it for a long time.

Thankfully, I figured it out – and learned a lot of lessons along the way.

And now I’m sharing these lessons with you, so it doesn’t have to take you as long as it did me

Uncovering your uniqueness and making this visible is of course the most important thing to do stand out in the marketplace.

I teach all about that in Unleash Your Uniqueness, my online program that is now available as a downloadable program.

Breaking these 3 habits also helps you stand out:

Habit #1: trying to fit in

If you’re like most human beings, you will sometimes try to fit in. Which is very understandable.

We all want to belong, be loved, liked and respected.

There’s nothing wrong with that in itself, BUT…

We believe we have to DO something to be loved and liked. We think we have to fit in, blend in, and be like everybody else or we won’t be accepted.

The truth is that we don’t.

Who you are is good enough – you don’t have to earn your worthiness.

When you’re trying to fit in, you’re automatically losing parts of yourself.

Guess which CRUCIAL things you’re losing?

Right… the very things that make you YOU – that make you unique and stand out.

Habit #2: trying to be someone you’re not

It’s amazing how hard it can be to just be who you are. It sounds so simple, but REALLY being true to your self, all the time, everywhere… it’s not that easy.

Some people even try to be someone they’re not.

But if you try to be someone you’re not, then who is there to be YOU?

Who can do that thing that YOU are uniquely meant to do, if you’re not doing it?

“There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it.”

Martha Graham

Habit #3: pleasing others

There’s nothing wrong with doing something nice for someone else. And there’s also nothing wrong with being kind or offering good service.

That’s not what I’m talking about here.

I’m talking about being so attached to others liking you that you’ll do ANYTHING to make that happen.

Unfortunately, this kind of over-the-top people pleasing has no positive effect AT ALL.

Others won’t like you if you try too hard to be liked – it feels uncomfortable and needy.

And you’ll lose yourself AND what you uniquely have to offer in the process of trying to be everything to everyone.

This week’s transformational action:

Don’t beat yourself up if you recognize some (or all) of these habits. Being true to yourself can be hard sometimes, and it’s OK if you’re not always able to do so.

Just pay attention to your behavior:

When do feel confident and able to shine your light and be true to yourself?

And when is this difficult or even impossible?

Once you know what triggers you to lose yourself, you can put an end to it.
